In these last months we spent some very busy weeks. We have just moved to another state!! We are now in Albuquerque, New Mexico!

New dollie-Great to display this 4th of July! She is an ORIGINAL - NOT made from a pattern- one of a kind doll. She stands 20" tall and wears the cutest americana dress with matching pantaloons and a gorgeous little bag with 2 prarie dolls. Her face is handpainted and the nose needles-sculpted. Her shoes laces have been hand-sewn on--hilariously cute. Over 2o hrs were spent in the creation of this piece. Absolutely a must have for an Americana lover :)

I really love how this one has turned out. I've been experimenting with extreme grungy techniques so this one has a very antiqued tattered old look. I've added a patch of fabric to her neck. She sports the prettiest dress with distressed polka-dot light aqua fabric and civil reproduction fabric. She is a huge 24" tall and bigger than most of my dolls.

Today was the first day of real winter weather and in the middle of all the snow falling this kitty showed up at our door. So now she's inside the house and I have no idea if she has been vetted or litter box trained for that matter. But I could not let her stay outside in the cold! I hope we can keep her-she is very affectionate. People are leaving their pets behind is so sad! So, we'll see, I'll keep you posted :-)

update 12/6/09: we found the owner :-) This gorgeous kitty is named OLIVIA, which fits quite well with her personality. The owner leaves next to us-who knew they adopted ANOTHER cat recently. Anyway, they were super happy to find her well!

Original Folk Art Pet Portrait

I just wanted to share my latest custom work, a pet portrait of Blossom-this adorable dog unfortunately passed away recently, so it's been a true pleasure and honor to be able to work on capturing her cuteness and cheerful spirit.

I love those evenings where the sun has just gone down and the moon is out but you can still see orange tones in the horizon, so I tried to give her a background that would speak of that. For a primitive look I added a willow tree and a saltbox :-)

I also thought I'd mention that I am having a FREE FRAMING SPECIAL-with all my custom pet portrait orders, where your painting will come framed at no additional cost :-)

This hilarious little guy took forever to make. His pedistal is made of wood and painted. he has a full tridimensional head and he is finished with a leaf made of light green felt which has been wired so that you can play with it and have it in different positions- depending on the wind-lol. Whimsical cat Doll with Heart

This original whimsical cat will keep you company all year around! He stands 11 1/2 inches tall and over 6 1/2 at the botton. Heavily stained, painted and sanded he comes with the cutest turquoise collar with brown polka-dots and embellished with golden german glitter. He also carries a heart for that shabby romantic look. The heart is attached to the collar with a rusty safety pin and is made with an antique Italian fabric. Folk art fabric flowers have been hand-embroidered on it. His eyes are hand-painted and his nose and mouth are hand-sewn. I also have attached 2 big rusty bells so that you'll hear him coming and he'll never get lost in your home :-) Oh.. and he smells like vanilla heaven and will arrive to your home gift-wrapped :-)

Count Your Blessings

I finished this hilarious painting today. Well, the message "Count your blessings" was actually meant to be inspirational as to remind you each day to see and appreciate all the positive that's in your life. But the chicken, well, that's another story. I love painting birdies and I don't know why but a chicken today came to mind, so here she is--I really think she looks very funny. I will make some prints :-) Last night we already had some fireworks and today I am sure it would be even crazier since we are here in Baltimore close to the Inner Harbor. Anyway, too many postings lately-LOL I hope you are having a great time with family and friends.

Marble Brownies

I had friends over for lunch so I made some baked pasta with garlic toasts and these marble brownies. If you are a chocolate-cheesecake lover these are for you. Very easy to make. Simply use your favorite brownie mix and place all ingredients as directed in a bowl, then on a separate bowl mix 1 package of philadelphia cheese at room temperature with 1 tablespoon of vanilla, 1/2 cup of sugar and 1 egg. Grease the pan with butter - I like glass- and place first you brownie mix, then the cheese mix on top without folding it. Run a knife through it just to create a pattern. Bake at 350 for 35 min. or until a toothpick comes out clean. Let it cool before cutting into squares. Decorate it with mint, strawberries and/or your favorite ice cream.

So many dollies!! As fellow artists you might have experienced times where your studio starts to look overcrowed with sooooo many creations -lol. I have decided to list some on ebay as "buy it know" with the "best offer" option. You can send me an offer with your best price, it's that easy and there is no fear to be outbidded at the last minute. These are not the "best times" in terms of our economy but as a collector I understand how nice it is be to still be able to endulge in a little art gift for yourself.

Spring is here and this lil' girl is so happy to hold her big purple flower.
I added golden glitter to the flower and to her hair. The painting is approximately 5 1/2" X 5 1/2" and has 1 and 1/2" thick borders, painted with a nice green color. I was inspired by EARTH DAY for this one. :-)

In Loving Memory...

It is with great sadness that I had to say goodbye to him. He had a tumor and his medical condition was so severe that nothing could be done except taking away his pain. I never thought that he was going to go away so soon. I just wanted to share this news in my blog since many of you know him as my "inspiration" for my Whimsical Cats Collection.

The love in one's heart does not change, but the hardest thing is to not be able to share it anymore. It's so important to make each moment count and share that love today with family, friends and all of our loved ones, despite of how busy we are.

The idea that a time might come where this opportunity will not be there anymore is for me too painful to bear, no matter how strong the faith that they will be in a better place. So it's best to concentrate on the present, on all the joys we have, and live our lives to the fullest of its potential so that there will be no regreat when looking back.

I am happy to announce that I will be participating in the Paws for Charity event. An art book compilation of photographs or paintings from approximately 20 artists, featuring dogs and/or cats to raise money for breast cancer charity.

Sara from http://sharleystudio.blogspot.com/ emailed me about this so I made a painting just for this event- entitled HOPE! It has of course one of my Whimsical Cats and Birdie with folk art antique flowers and colorful hills in the background. The cat wears a party hat with the word-hope and a pink ribbon in support of this cause. I am soooo excited! I have met- and keep meeting- so many wonderful people and amazing artists by being a part of the One World One Heart event. So here I am blogging about a very special person and artist Kecia and her lovely Pebbles. He passed away few years ago and she emailed me suggesting an exchange- a necklace for a cat portrait. I accepted and it was a nice challenge for something never done-since my whimsical cats are all back and Pebbles was white and caramel :-) I have now finished the painting so I am posting it here. I gave him a whimsical heart that says "Love is Forever".
